The family lived, among other places, in Columbus, GA; Nesmith, AL; Eldridge, AL; Millport, AL; Chattanooga, TN; Columbia, TN; Gordo, AL; Cullman, AL; Charleston, Gray Court and Laurens, SC; and Huffman, AL., where they resided at 914 School Terrace for many years. Ironically, Laurens County is adjacent to Abbeville District, where John Jones (his 4th great-grandfather) first settled in 1767. Bennie remained with Daniels Construction for over 30 years, with only a brief interruption in the mid-1950's to operate a Gulf Service Station in Woodlawn, Alabama, and was still working for Daniels at the time of his death. He worked on many projects in the Birmingham area, including the Children's Hospital and the University and VA Hospitals, Spain Rehab, the Federal Bank Building, Canterbury Methodist Church and the Birmingham News.4 |
