Alexander Mathes (brother of Jeremiah) and Ambrose Young were witnesses to the marriage.7,8,6 |

Lee Roy Armstrong1
M, b. 8 February 1830, d. 23 August 1897
Kinship* | Relationship: 2nd great-grandfather. |
Interest* | Lee Roy had at least three wives- Rachel Matilda Howell, Sarah Brown, and Emily Armstrong. He is listed with Sarah in the 1870 US Census in Wayne County, Tennessee, and with Emily in the 1880 US Census in Winston County, Alabama. Though many children carry the Armstrong name and are attributed to Lee Roy, it appears likely to this writer that some of these children were from previous marriages of the various wives. Much research is left to be done in this area. In Life and Legend of Lawrence County, Alabama by Dorothy Gentry, LeRoy Armstrong was noted to run the Post Office in Gum Pond, Alabama (situated near the border of Lawrence and Winston Counties) from June to December, 1877. He also served as Sheriff of Houston in Winston County in 1878.5,6 |
