Interest* Robert F. lived in Abbeville District, South Carolina prior to moving into Gwinnett County, Georgia about 1823. He then moved to DeKalb County about 1825, and made his home about twelve miles east of Atlanta near what is now the Flat Shoal Road. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and a minister of the Gospel, and he built a log church across the road from his home, which was first called Jones' Chapel, and was later called Macedonia. He and his wife and a number of his children and grandchildren were buried in Old Macedonia Cemetery, which was surveyed by noted Atlanta historian Franklin Garrett on Feb. 6, 1932. However, subsequent to that time, the cemetery was virtually destroyed by pulpwood loggers, according to Mrs. Rebecca Huie, who has personally visited the site (it's present location is in DeKalb County, near Bouldercrest Road.)7,5

Interest* About 1855 the family moved to Conley (now Clayton Co.), Georgia, and then Bowdon (now Carroll Co.), Georgia; and then later to Forest Park (now Clayton Co.) They were in DeKalb County, Georgia in the 1850 US Census, in Carroll County, Georgia in the 1860 US census, and in Clayton County, Georgia in the 1870 and 1880 US Census. The original Jones Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church South was built in 1896, on land "being all that tract or parcel of land situated, lying and being in the County of Clayton, the same being a part of land lot No. 52 lying on the Flatshoal and Fairburn Road about one mile west of Forest Station Community- beginning at the north west corner of the E.L. Jones Family Cemetery". The church was named for E.L. Jones by his son Rev. John Jones, and the E.L. Jones Family Cemetery was created by Edward's will. The cemetery now sits on Forest Parkway near the western edge of Forest Park, GA., about 400 feet east of Old Dixie Highway, next to Parkway Baptist Church (which now leases the church building from the Jones Memorial United Methodist Church.)5,6,7,8,9

Interest* David was educated at Yanceyville, North Carolina, and became a Methodist preacher, joining the South Carolina conference. He and his wife and three children, accompanied by three brothers, William, Richard and Benjamin Franklin, moved from South Carolina to Georgia about 1826 and settled at various locations on and near the present site of Atlanta, in what is now DeKalb County; William, Richard and David in what is now Ormewood Park and East Atlanta, and Benjamin F. on Nelson's Ferry Road along the present route of Magnolia Street, NW. Thurman Street nearby is named for Benjamin. All the brothers were farmers.
David died in 1831 and was buried in Richard Thurman's cemetery, on or near the present site of Fort Walter in Grant Park. However, the cemetery was completely obliterated in the Civil War.3,5

Jones enlisted at Bowdon, GA July 30, 1861 by Captain McDaniel. He was living at home, and was a Bowdon Villag College student at the time. Nov-Dec. 1861, "absent on furlough at Bowdon expires Nov. 15." Captured at Crampton's Gap. Oct. 2, 1862 on roll of prisoners (as a Private) at Fort Delaware. Sent to Aiken's Landing, VA. for exchange. Suffered a severe wound at Chancellorsville "in bowel." August 1863, elected Lieutenant. On roll Jan. 1865 as "absent, prisoner taken." August 1864, was captured at Guard Hill. Oath of Allegiance at Fort Deleware. "Complexion fair, eyes gray, hair light, 6ft." Released June 17, 1865

Note*Daniel Smith Jones He was a horticulturalist and sold fruit trees. He was moving to Nebraska, but a famine ruined the crops. He settled in Moody Cross Roads, St. Clair Co., AL and ran a fruit store.10 
Interest* Daniel's Civil War records described him as having "fair complexion, light hair, grey eyes, and 6 feet tall". He enlisted as a private in the CSA on July 30, 1861, at Bowdon, GA in Co. B (Infantry Battalion), Cobb's Legion, Georgia Volunteers. He was captured near Front Royal, VA about Aug. 16, 1864, and was sent to Old Capitol Prison, Washington, D.C. He was then sent to Ft. Delaware, DE on Aug. 27, where he remained until his release on June 17, 1865. He had obtained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in Aug., 1863. His wife's pension application indicates that he "was wounded in the left side" at some point during the war.
In the 1880 US Census, Daniel and family were living in Clayton County, Georgia. Family lore states that Daniel and Mariah and their family eventually left Georgia, headed for Nebraska, to sell fruit trees for Stark Company. However, there was a crop failure in the West, so they stopped in Moody Cross Roads, St. Clair Co., Alabama about Nov. 27, 1884, where they settled and Daniel ran a fruit store.11,12,7,13

Death*Nancy Eveline "Nannie" Morris died on 28 April 1882 at G.L. Morris, near Cedar Grove, DeKalb Co., GA, at age 39. The Bible record reads "died...tumor," while Oda Fay Moore Clark recalls that she died "at age 39 of consumption at her father's house."9,10 
Burial*She was buried after 28 April 1882 in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Ellenwood, DeKalb Co., GA, After Nancy was buried, her husband Daniel "built a pretty wooden fence around her grave, which remained there until around 1963." He also planted an oak leaf hydrangea bush, which is still living today. On a visit to the cemetery in January, 2012 by Dr. Ben Dowdey, his wife Susan, and his mother Benna Jean Dowdey, Roy Hatcher confirmed the previous presence of this structure. They obtained cuttings of the bush, just as many descendants have done previously.11,12,13
