Interest* | Robert F. lived in Abbeville District, South Carolina prior to moving into Gwinnett County, Georgia about 1823. He then moved to DeKalb County about 1825, and made his home about twelve miles east of Atlanta near what is now the Flat Shoal Road. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and a minister of the Gospel, and he built a log church across the road from his home, which was first called Jones' Chapel, and was later called Macedonia. He and his wife and a number of his children and grandchildren were buried in Old Macedonia Cemetery, which was surveyed by noted Atlanta historian Franklin Garrett on Feb. 6, 1932. However, subsequent to that time, the cemetery was virtually destroyed by pulpwood loggers, according to Mrs. Rebecca Huie, who has personally visited the site (it's present location is in DeKalb County, near Bouldercrest Road.)7,5 |

Interest* | David was educated at Yanceyville, North Carolina, and became a Methodist preacher, joining the South Carolina conference. He and his wife and three children, accompanied by three brothers, William, Richard and Benjamin Franklin, moved from South Carolina to Georgia about 1826 and settled at various locations on and near the present site of Atlanta, in what is now DeKalb County; William, Richard and David in what is now Ormewood Park and East Atlanta, and Benjamin F. on Nelson's Ferry Road along the present route of Magnolia Street, NW. Thurman Street nearby is named for Benjamin. All the brothers were farmers. David died in 1831 and was buried in Richard Thurman's cemetery, on or near the present site of Fort Walter in Grant Park. However, the cemetery was completely obliterated in the Civil War.3,5 |

Interest* | Daniel's Civil War records described him as having "fair complexion, light hair, grey eyes, and 6 feet tall". He enlisted as a private in the CSA on July 30, 1861, at Bowdon, GA in Co. B (Infantry Battalion), Cobb's Legion, Georgia Volunteers. He was captured near Front Royal, VA about Aug. 16, 1864, and was sent to Old Capitol Prison, Washington, D.C. He was then sent to Ft. Delaware, DE on Aug. 27, where he remained until his release on June 17, 1865. He had obtained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in Aug., 1863. His wife's pension application indicates that he "was wounded in the left side" at some point during the war. In the 1880 US Census, Daniel and family were living in Clayton County, Georgia. Family lore states that Daniel and Mariah and their family eventually left Georgia, headed for Nebraska, to sell fruit trees for Stark Company. However, there was a crop failure in the West, so they stopped in Moody Cross Roads, St. Clair Co., Alabama about Nov. 27, 1884, where they settled and Daniel ran a fruit store.11,12,7,13 |
