Interest* In 1834, Archelaus and Sarah moved with their family and slaves to Burke (now Caldwell) County, settling on Lower Creek about two miles west of Lenoir, near Sarah's father. Following Abraham Sudderth's death, Archelaus bought William and John Sudderth's shares of their father's estate. With his wife's share, he acquired a great deal of property, including the homeplace, and became a prosperous planter with many slaves and a large plantation.3
