He served for many years with the Alabama Golf Association and the United States Golf Association, as a rules official and as a committee-member, and was president of the AGA in 1993-1994. He was elected to the Birmingham Golf Association Hall of Fame in 2013.3

Interest* In an interesting twist of fate, Jerry Louise (otherwise known as Sissy to her family) was a kindergarten teacher for about 15 years at Grace Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL, where her director was Benna Jean (Jones) Dowdey. Sissy was also a Youth Counselor for the church, and one of her church youth was Benna Jean's son Ben. About 15 years later in the winter of 1979, Sissy's sister Susan met Ben on a blind date, and "the rest is history," as they say. We now have the Dowdey-Wildsmith website, after Ben and Susan married later that year.5
