Interest*

Thomas Cornell came to America about 1638, with his wife and some, if not all, of his children; and was first noted in Boston, Massachusetts on August 20, 1638, when he bought William Baulstone's house on Washington Street. He eventually settled in "Cornell's Neck" on the north shore of Long Island Sound, in New Amsterdam (New York), and probably stayed for about 9 years, before being run out by Indian attacks. He returned with his family to Rhode Island about 1644, and eventually settled on what could "be considered the original Homestead of the Cornell family," on the Cornell Grant in the town of Portsmouth.⁵
