Elyton Cemetery is located on 2nd Avenue North, between 3rd and 4th Street North in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, and is reportedly the oldest cemetery in Birmingham. Elyton was one the original towns that eventually led to the development of Birmingham. Many of the founders and early settlers of the area are buried here, including William F. Tegner, his wife Margaret (Lee), and their daughter Ida Leona. Also buried here was Thomas Wildsmith, whose son Edward Taylor Wildsmith married Ida Leona's sister Nancy Elizabeth.
Even though the cemetery is now well-kept, it was neglected for years, and many of the markers are missing or destroyed, including those of the Tegner family. Thomas Wildsmith was reportedly buried in an unmarked grave.
The author and his wife Susan visited it in 2014.
